Ciclovia del Reno [Reno Cycle Route]

The Reno river accompanies and guides the cyclist along a fascinating route through the gentle rural landscape of the Pianura Bolognese. The Reno cycle route (also known as the ER19 regional cycle route) winds its way through cultivated fields, floodplains, small villages and majestic country villas, telling us about the long relationship between a territory and its river and how they shape each other. In the stretches that run along the banks of the Reno you can enjoy an unusual elevated position that offers an exciting panoramic view of the surrounding plain.

Explore the Bolognese plain... from above!

If you are a two-wheel enthusiast or simply wish to take an excursion to immerse yourself in the calm landscape of the Bolognese Plain, the Ciclovia del Reno is the perfect itinerary for you, it is almost entirely flat and therefore suitable for all types of cyclists.

A route from Bologna to the Adriatic sea

The Reno Cycle Route extends for about 40 km along the banks of the Reno River, currently connecting seven municipalities: Castel Maggiore, Calderara di Reno, Sala Bolognese, Argelato, Castello d'Argile, Pieve di Cento and GallieraWith a width of 2 metres and a base of stabilised inert material, the cycle path is also suitable for normal city bikes. But it doesn't end here! The project foresees the extension of another 68 km to reach the Adriatic Sea, thus connecting the city of Bologna to the sea.

Discover the hidden treasures along the Reno river

Along the Reno embankment, cyclists can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding plain as they pass through historical and cultural sites such as the village of Malacappa, the Oratorio del Savignano and Cento, the birthplace of Guercino. The cycle route continues to follow the great river to La Bisana ecological rebalancing area in Galliera, where the Reno seems to return to its primordial state.

Eastwards, towards the Adriatic sea

Here the cycle route curves eastwards, crossing the plain that was once home to rice fields, offering cyclists a spectacle of unique colours and landscapes. With the possibility of extending as far as the Adriatic Sea, crossing the province of Ferrara and Ravenna, the Reno Cycle Route offers an unparalleled cycling experience.
