The Town Hall is the result of the union of two buildings, creating a labyrinth of stars and hallways.
There isn’t much information before 1498, when Giovanni II Bentivoglio built his palace in San Giovanni. After decades of disputes, Gaspare Nadi (Lord of Bologna) decided to unite the pre-existing buildings belonging to the Bishop and the Authority as a sign of Peace. At the fall of the Bentivoglio, the palace passed to Count Marcantonio Marsili who already owned villas and lands in the countryside. Later, Marcantonio Marsili gave the palace to the “Comunità dei Partecipanti” in 1612. Since that moment, the Town Hall has been changed, restored and decorated up to the current building.
In the Town Hall it is possible to admire the proof of the Eighteenth-century culture, such as the elegant stairway decorated by the sculpture of Luigi Acquisti.
The second floor was built in the early Twentieth Century and the stairs were adorned with new decorations more functional to the institutional activity.
