Church of the Madonna della Cintura

The church, a late-Baroque treasure located in Piazza Garibaldi, was built in 1574 by the Confraternita del SS. Sacramento on the project of the architect and sculptor Alfonso Lombardi.

Here, in the 1639, the “Compagnia della B.V. della Consolazione” was set up and gave the name to the Church. 

In the Eighteenth Century, the church was rebuilt with a central nave and three altars on the side, based on a project of Alfonso Torregiani. On the main altar, it is possible to admire the statue of the Madonna della Cintura made in 1822 by Giacomo de Maria, named the “Bolognese Canova”, as well as the statues representing David and Moses, on the sides.

In the Parish of SS. Sacramento there is a XVII century walnut wood choir from the ancient church of Santa Maria del Carmine.
