The 19th-century church stands where, in the 10th century, there was the primitive nucleus of Castel Maggiore, originally called Castagnolo Maggiore.
Having always been the main religious centre of the area, it contains a beautiful 17th- century crucifix.
The apostle Andrea is the patron saint of Castel Maggiore and he's celebrated on November the 30th, a local holiday.
