Rice-workers during the 19th century in the area of Molinella and of the Bologna's lowland were young women that operated in the local paddy field in order to clean the rice plants. The word "mondine" derives from the verb "mondare" that in Italian means "to clean".
The artists Nicola Zamboni and Sara Bolzani in 2007 realized this sculpture to remember those people and their proud and fighting spirit. The three-dimensional work in copper is decorating the traffic circle of the via Provinciale Galliera, at the south entrance of the town of San Pietro in Casale. The work wants to be the ideal follow of the bi-dimensional sculpture of Molinella had a historical importance for their battles to claim rights.
