The “Punto Antico” (openwork embroidery) is a type of Italian drawn-thread work similar to Hardanger that usually is worked on evenweave fabric (canvas).
Il Punto Antico is a cultural association, which was founded in 1996 with the aim of keeping alive the tradition of embroidery.
The association organizes exhibitions of works carried out by the course participants. It promotes tours to museums and participate in major events related to the world of embroidery.
The activities of the group also include the collection of drawings, texts and works to build an archive of ancient embroidery. It collaborates with the publication of books.
During the year there are two series of courses, beginning in late September and late January.
A Publishing firm named "Il Punto Antico" was founded in 2005 by three women who love embroidery. Embroidery is the subject of the firm’s publications (handbooks, catalogues of exhibitions and anastatic reprints of old embroidery books). The founders chose this particular sector because they love this art and wish to provide the world of embroidery with suggestions, new interpretations and explanations.
