A few kilometres away from Crevalcore, on the road for the hamlet of Sammartini, stands the Oratory known as "The Rotonda".
It was commissioned by Countess Maria Vittoria Caprara as an ex voto for having her husband rescued after falling with horse and carriage in a rice paddy. The circular oreatory was built between 1756 and 1768 by the architect Petronio Fancelli, a student of the famous Carlo Francesco Dotti.
The chapel may be visited in occasion of the nativity of the Virgin on September 8th, when the 8 beautiful paintings by Antonio Bertuzzi, usually kept in the safer Chiesa di San Silvestro, are on exhibition.
La Rotonda is one of the best examples of the Bolognese Rococò (Late Baroque), still well conserved even if it has changed property various times along the centuries.
