Six the varieties with the label PGI: Abate Fetel, Conference, Decana, Kaiser, Max Red Bartlett, William.
The Abate Fetel's pear is known as the queen of the pears. It is a large pear with a very sugary white pulp. It belongs to the Rosaceae family. The plant was obtained in France in 1866, with quince graft, by homonymous Abate Fetel. The fruits mature in late September and have an elongated shape, like a large size flask (even more than 250 gr.) with a nice smooth and thin skin, yellow and rusty coloured. The pulp is juicy, white and thin. It has a sweet and sourish taste. It is extremely fragrant and pleasant.
