For two weekends, Pieve di Cento hosts the "Sagra del Maccherone al Pettine," an opportunity to savor the typical pasta shape that locals have turned into an art.
To make the maccheroni, the dough, strictly hand-rolled with a rolling pin, is cut into small squares that are rolled on a stick and passed over the "pettine" (the comb from the old loom once used by housewives for weaving) to give them the typical ridged texture. Once ready, the maccheroni can be served with meat ragù, vegetables, or pan-tossed with cream.
Reservations are recommended by calling 3395675927 or via SMS or WhatsApp at 3334607811. Updated information is also available on the Pieve Pro Loco Facebook page.
The traditional recipes from Pieve are part of the Bolognese and Emilian culinary tradition and are mostly simple dishes made with natural ingredients like flour, lard, eggs, and garden vegetables. These products have always been abundant in Pieve, and there was a strict no-waste policy.
The women of the household would cleverly enhance the flavors of this modest cuisine, succeeding so well that these dishes are still on our tables today and are the stars of local festivals. One of the most delectable dishes is the traditional "maccheroni al pettine," which inspired the village festival held at the beginning of summer.
You can enjoy the famous ridged maccheroni, strictly handmade by local pasta makers, dressed with various sauces: meat ragù, ragù and peas, ham, and vegetarian options. The menu also includes second courses and traditional desserts.
