Inaugurated in the Spring of 2018, Giocars Museum entered in the ‘Bologna Metropolitan area museum network’ in October. Its exhibition features 700 unique toys, delving into the theme of movement; hence the name Giocars: Gioco (Game) + Cars. Its priceless private collection and its strategic location in Sala Bolognese, in the heart of the Motor Valley, make it an interesting place to visit to anyone interested in motor museums.
Visitors will explore the history of moving toys: cars, tricycles, prams, rocking horses, levers, pedals and wheels, all preserved better than anywhere else in Italy. The showpieces of the collection are the karts along with the motorcycles, a series of fully functional models.
The collection follows and in some cases anticipates the historical evolution of local automotive and motorcycle brands. These toys witness the vocation for the movement and the speed of the local population, artisans and companies’. A vocation for the automotive design made in Italy, and, more specifically, made in Emilia-Romagna.
The museum offers educational services: guided tours (also in English, French, Chinese and Japanese, on request) for individual visitors, groups, families and schools, and workshops for children and boys. Main topics of the workshops will be concepts such as sustainable mobility and reuse through repair. During these events, the museum brings visitors closer to the history of the toy, to the themes related to the evolution and history of the game, "foundation of every culture of social organization" (Homo Ludens, J. Huizinga 1938).
The museum can also host public and private events, vintage motorbike car rallies and others events that are compatible with the structure and its external spaces.
