The natural area "La Bora" has been recognized by the European Union as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and a special protection area (SPA). It covers an area of 22 hectares, including a wide water basin, a small hygrophil wood, hedges and trees and a prairie area, as well as a reforestation sector - where more than 8 thousand trees have been planted - become a proper wood by now.
The area is aimed at guaranteeing the survival, care and study of the native flora and fauna species. The wetlands host a wide range of birds. Among the wintering species over the last few years, cormorants have appeared. Among the Birds of Prey, there are buzzards, marsh harriers, sparrow hawks and owls.
At the entrance of the protected area lies the Plain's Anphibians and Reptiles Center (CRA), a place for research and preservation of animals like frog, toad, crested newt or the local swamp tortoise.
The area is equipped with trails, screened observation points and a hide.
The access to the area is free along daytime for singles and groups up to 5 people and in any case inside the marked path. For bigger groups is mandatory to ask for a guide at the contacts reported below.
