A seaside resort opposite the Parco della Chiusa

Stretching on the left bank of the Reno, there is a beach with all the facilities of a seaside resort.

Recently reopened after restoration work, the Lido is located opposite the Parco della Chiusa and can be reached from the town centre with a pleasant bike-ride, offering a splendid view of the sluice and the river.

Once that the construction of a new sluice was finished after a violent flood in 1893, the floods of the Reno leveled the land's harshness; so, grass grew on a layer of fine sand and earth forming the Lido.

In the mid-16^th century thousands of people crowded the beach to sunbathe, dive into the river and perform sblisgarole, a water slide obtained by wetting the white granite of the sluice.

The Lido reached the height of its splendour in the 1930s and bathers could enter it against payment of a fee: it was equipped with bathing-huts, showers, beach umbrellas, toilets, drink sellers and a small restaurant where to taste the Reno's fried fish and Bolognese dishes as well. The Lido applied for a trading licence for bathing establishment in 1939 and obtained the first Bathing Regulations in 1942.

After a land mine removal from the area, the summer after the World War II, it opened to the public again together with “L'Isola Verde” (The Green Island), a successful dance hall where people could listen jazz, swing and ballroom music up to 1952.

The Lido started its inexorable decline during the boom years: the spread of motorcycles drove people to reach the “real” beaches of the Adriatic Coast letting poor ones frequent it only. Moreover, river waters took a heavy toll of victims every summer.

The bathing establishment was entirely destroyed by a violent flood in 1966 and nobody intended to build it again till 1998, the year when the municipal administration of Casalecchio di Reno ordered restoration work on it.

Today, after restoration works, the Lido is an ideal place to spend a day outdoors, for kids to have fun in a park or for a night out in the green.
 
There is a small kiosk, open every day from April to September, with outdoor tables, deck chairs and umbrellas for rent and the possibility to have a snack.
