The Archaeological environmental museum has been housed since 2004 in Porta Garibaldi, a historical building of San Giovanni in Persiceto and a former district penitentiary that still keeps some of its original features (bars, gratings, prisoners’graffiti).
The museum illustrates the history and development of the Persiceto territory between the Roman Era and the 16th century: numerous Roman remains, that are the result of recent archaeological diggings, are on display together with a fortified village dating back to the middle centuries of the Medieval period and fragments of etched kitchen and tableware ceramics from workshops of the Reinaissance.
