Where: San Pietro in Casale (BO)

When: 21 May 2022

The historic Carnival in San Pietro, which began as a tradition back in 1871, is an opportunity to watch the parades of fun allegorical floats and walking masks, starting at 5.00pm.

The highlight of the festival is at 9:00pm, when the citizens gather in the square for the reading of the "testament" of King Sandròn Spaviròn, the traditional mask of San Pietro in Casale, who has been thrilling the public with his biting satire since 1871. Carnival is in fact the occasion of the year when Sandròn jokingly recalls the names of people who have done something important for the town, either positively or negatively. At the end of his desecrating testament, a puppet representing the mask is burned as per tradition.

From 4 p.m. food stands will be open in Piazza dei Martiri offering culinary delights and good wine.

In case of bad weather, the event will be held on 28 May.

The Carnival is an opportunity to visit San Pietro in Casale, a pretty town on the Bolognese plains, which is striking for the beautiful urban layout of its historic centre, with its Bolognese-style porticoes and elegant historic buildings.
