Grand Tour 2018

A day to discover the local artistic treasures

The project Grand Tour 2018 in the Pianura bolognese is a way to discover and re-discover the local artistic heritage.       

In Argelato, Bentivoglio, Budrio, Minerbio, Pieve di Cento and San Giovanni in Persiceto lots of palaces, castles, museums and other culturally and historically relevant sites will be open to the public free of charge. Reservation is usually required on the website of the Grand Tour 2018. In many cases, it will also be possible to join free guided tours (in Italian) to some of these cultural sites.

More events are organized in the locations involved, including concerts, food experiences, workshops for children and cultural and naturalistic tours. Take a look at the detailed program for further informations.


The initiative is supported by Emilbanca bank in order to value the artistic and environmental heritage of the area in the north of Bologna.

> Villa Beatrice  (Via degli Aceri 6, Argelato) 
Beautiful Bolognese countryside villa, built in the second half of Sixteenth-century.

September 15th, 5pm: Classical music concert

> Quadreria del ritiro San Pellegrino (via Argelati 10, Argelato) 

Artworks, furnitures and vestments from the period between XVI and XIX century.

> Bentivoglio Castle , Palazzo Rosso and Mulino Pizzardi (via Saliceto 1, Bentivoglio) 
The mansion of leisure and hunting, built by the noble family of Bentivoglio at the end of the fifteenth century, the late nineteenth-century palace that is a decorative masterpiece of Aemilia Ars floral style, and the Bentivoglio's Milla, a masterpiece of industrial archaeology in the Bolognese territory.

> Museo della Civiltà Contadina  (Via Sammarina, 35, San Marino di Bentivoglio) 
The Villa Smeraldi manor house, dating back to 1787, now it is the seat of the Museum of Rural Culture's collections

> Natural protected area "La Rizza"  (Via Bassa degli Albanelli, 13) 
A former rice-paddy, now a wet zone of the plain, home to rich and varied fauna, birds in particular.

> Civic art gallery Domenico Inzaghi (via Mentana, 32, Budrio) 
A rich collection of artworks and paintings mostly from Emilia dating back from 1300 to 1700.

Renamed “La piazzetta degli inganni” (The Little Square of Tricks) due to its multicoloured trompe l’oeil by the famous set designer Gino Pellegrini, collaborator of movie directors such as Stanley Kubrick.
