The Archaeological environmental museum has been housed since 2004 in Porta Garibaldi, a historical building of San Giovanni in Persiceto and a former district penitentiary that still keeps some of its original features (bars, gratings, prisoners’graffiti).
The museum illustrates the history and development of the Persiceto territory between the Roman Era and the 16th century: numerous Roman remains, that are the result of recent archaeological diggings, are on display together with a fortified village dating back to the middle centuries of the Medieval period and fragments of etched kitchen and tableware ceramics from workshops of the Reinaissance.
This museum is the main venue of an exhibition complex, which can be defined as the "spread museum of the science of the Bolognese plain"; the other three locations are:
Timetable: Sunday 10am-12pm and 5pm-7pm (closed from July to August, Christmas and Easter Holidays). From Monday to Friday is possible to have access by appointment. Guided tours and didactic activities can be arranged by contacting the Museum.
Entrance: full ticket 2 euros; reduced ticket 1 euro (children between 7 and 17 yrs, over 60, teachers, students and disabled). Free entry for children uo to 6 yrs
