The green asparagus of Altedo has a long, consolidated tradition dating back to the 1920s.
After the Second World War, the cultivation of asparagus began to spread and important cooperatives in the territory were created to concentrate on production and marketing of this particular product, leading to the award in the 2003 of the IGP (PGI - Protected geographical indication) designation.
That same year a Consortium was created with the aim of protecting the name "Green Asparagus Altedo IGP" and enhance its cultivation.
During the 3rd and 4th weeks of May, Altedo (7 kms. from the main town Malalbergo) hosts the
Sagra dell'asparago verde IGP
(Festival of the green asparagus GPI of Altedo), where visitors can taste delicious asparagus-based dishes.
